A Romantic Sedona Elopement at Merry Go Round Rock
Some Sedona elopements feel like they were built around one perfect view, and Marien and Andrew’s day at Merry Go Round Rock had exactly that kind of magic.
Andrew & Marien rented a Jeep, picked up their officiant and photographer, (me!) and headed up Schnebly Hill Road toward one of Sedona’s most unforgettable ceremony spots. The drive itself felt like part of the story: red dirt, bumpy turns, huge canyon views, and that slow shift from everyday life into something quieter and more meaningful.
Once we reached Merry Go Round Rock, they had their ceremony with the red rocks all around them. Afterward, we stayed for portraits, walked around the overlook, and made sure to take a few sweet photos with the Jeep that got them there.

Getting to Merry Go Round Rock: The adventure begins!
Perched high above the desert, Merry Go Round Rock offers sweeping views of Sedona’s iconic red rocks, including the dramatic formations of Munds Mountain and the surrounding wilderness. The remote setting creates an intimate, adventurous atmosphere that feels completely removed from every day life. For this kind of elopement, renting a Jeep makes a lot of sense. It gives the day a fun, adventurous feel, and it also helps everyone get to the location safely and comfortably.
That drive created a natural pause before the ceremony. There is something grounding about bouncing along a dirt road toward your wedding ceremony. It gives you time to laugh, take in the views, and let the day sink in.
By the time we arrived at Merry Go Round Rock, Marien and Andrew were able to step out, breathe, and be fully present.
The Best Time for a Merry Go Round Rock Elopement
The best time to visit Merry Go Round Rock depends on the season and road conditions.
Spring and fall are often ideal because temperatures are more comfortable and the landscape is especially beautiful. Summer can bring intense heat in the desert, although early morning and evening ceremonies can be more comfortable. Winter may offer peaceful views and fewer visitors, but snow and ice can make the roads difficult or impassable.
For the most dramatic light and a more private experience, consider planning your ceremony around sunrise or sunset. Sunrise offers soft, peaceful light and a quiet atmosphere, while sunset creates warm, glowing colors across the red rocks.

Romantic Elopement Portraits after the Ceremony at Merry go Round Rock
After the ceremony, we moved into portraits around Merry Go Round Rock. This is where elopement timelines can really breathe.
There was no strict reception schedule to rush back to. We had time to move slowly, use the light, and let them enjoy the fact that they had just gotten married.
We photographed the Bride and Groom against Sedona's red rock formations, along the overlook, and in spots where the canyon stretched behind them. Some imoments felt romantic and intimate, while others felt playful and relaxed. That mix is exactly what makes elopement galleries feel complete. The epic photo is " The Hole in the Rock" and I always make sure I get the Photo!
For couples planning a similar day, this is one of the reasons location matters so much. The best elopement locations are not just pretty in one direction. They give you space to move, breathe, and create a full story.

An Intimate Sedona elopement to Remember
Marien and Andrew’s elopement did not feel like a performance. It felt like an experience they chose on purpose.
They wanted a beautiful place, a meaningful ceremony, and photos that captured both the romance and the adventure of the day. Riding up Schnebly Hill with their officiant and photographer made the day feel close and simple. Saying their vows at Merry Go Round Rock gave them a setting that matched the weight of the moment.
That is what makes elopements so powerful. They can be shaped around what actually matters to the couple.
There is room for the practical things, like transportation and timing. There is room for beauty, like red rocks and golden light.
